For Students Entering: Grades 6-12
This camp is offered for students
to improve their technique and musicianship in instrumental music under
expert conductors and coaches. A balanced instrumentation is planned
with activities culminating in a gala performance.

Music Theory, Concerts, Jazz (Band Camp), Recitals, Sectional Rehearsals,
Master Classes Practice
Recreational Activities
Pool, Canoeing, Games & Tournament, Crafts, Crabbing, Archery, Talent Show, Water Carnival (Water activities supervised
by certified instructors.)
Housing/Dining
Campers will be housed in five cabins, each of which has bunk beds and
a common rest room area. At least two adult counselors will be assigned
to each cabin. Meals will be provided family style. Most of the staff
will live and dine with the campers and be available for help whenever
needed. Three meals, an afternoon and evening snack will be provided
each full day.
Conduct
Campers are expected to follow school and camp rules, regulations and
staff requests and otherwise conduct themselves in such a manner that
a safe and successful experience will result. Failure to do so will
result in an immediate return to home and forfeiture of all money.
Adult volunteers are necessary for help in the camp program. If you
are available, please complete the form in the student acceptance packet.
NOTE: Operation of the camp as described depends upon funding of portions
of the Board of Education budget. Certain cancellations or modification
may be necessary.
Cost
The cost per camper is $375 for the week, which includes a camp T-shirt and DVD. A $100 deposit is required with
the application. The deposit will be promptly refunded to all campers
not accepted. It is not refundable for cancellations after the application
deadline. Some scholarship assistance may be available to needy students.
A form for requesting aid is in this brochure. Additional information
may be requested. Payment in full is due by May 2, 2008, for students
accepted.
Application Procedures
Complete the music camp application form. Be sure you get all signatures
requested. Mail the application to Amy Cohn,

MD 21401. Make deposit checks payable to Anne Arundel County Public
School. Applications Are Due February 28, 2008.

Band applicants may audition at either an intermediate or advanced level
all scales must be memorized.
Intermediate wind applicants will choose and prepare:
· a solo from the Rubank Elementary Method,
· a one octave chromatic scale and
· major scales one octave in C, G, D, B flat, E flat and F.
Advanced wind applicants will choose and prepare:
· a solo from the Rubank Intermediate Method,
· a two octave chromatic scale, and
· major scales two octaves in C and up to three sharps and three flats.
Intermediate percussionists:
1. Snare Drum: Roy Burns Elementary Drum Method, pg. 34, Trio (to 4th
line), and sight reading.
2. Rudiments: The long roll (closed), single paradiddle, and the five
stroke roll.
3. Scales (Orchestra Bells): C, F, G, (one octave).
Advanced percussionists:
1. Snare Drum: Roy Burns Elementary Drum Method, pg. 50, (lines 1-4),
and sight reading.
2. Rudiments: The flam, the drag, the long roll (closed), single stroke
roll.

Scales (Orchestra Bells): C, F, G, B flat, A (two octaves).
Each percussion applicant
will be required to match pitches on a 26” (A-F)
and a 29” (F-D) timpani, and demonstrate proficiency on crash cymbals,
suspended cymbal, and bass drum. Scales for winds and rudiments for drums
will be selected at the audition. Scales and rudiments must be memorized.
Scales are as written, not ‘concert keys.’
The audition determines acceptance and initial seating placement in ensembles. Each
student should demonstrate their best technique and expression.
